Building Performance
2 Years ago Mid-State recognized that the building standards that were being set by the Building Performance Institute were going to become the gold standard in the industry. We began the long dificult task of becoming a certified contractor at that time. Mid-State today is a Building Analyst, Envelope and Heating Certified contractor. We are in the process of receiving our Air Conditioning certification as you read this.
What should you expect from a Home Energy Assessment:
The first step consists of a technician taking an inventory and reporting on the current conditions of your home to include the following:
*A techinican will use a number of diagnostic tools during the assesment including but not limited to a carbon monoxide analyzer.
-Health and Saftey check (carbon monoxide levels, moisture and indoor air quality problems)
-Overal comfort level (cold/hot spots, indoor air quality stuffiness/stale odors)
-Air sealing opportunities
-Insulation levels
-Heating system efficiency
-Cooling system/central air conditioning efficiency, if applicable
-Domestic hot water system efficiency
-Major appliances
-Lighting
As your contractor we will identify any potential health and safty issues during the initial assesment. These issues will need to be addressed prior to any energy efficiency improvements can made through the program.
The second step consists of a certified contractor generally utilizing a 2 person crew, performing air sealing work that is fully subsidized by the program. This includes a before and after blower door test, which measures the air tightness of a home and aids in identifying areas where air leakiage is occurring.
The third step is additional more extensive home improvements for energy efficiency.
Now you know how the program works, but now you want to know what you get in return for all the improvements you just made to your home. As this program continues to evolve the rebates and benefits may change and should always check the NJ Clean Energy website. |
